- Renovation of an early Single Family 1860’s row house in Boston’s South End, a building with little intact original detailing and a significant amount of deferred maintenance. The lot is unusually deep (slightly over 95’) as is its rear neighbors.
The renovated house engages the family in new perspectives of open spaces, daylight, and natural ventilation; the details and materiality alternately unite and contrast the modern spaces with their historical foundation. As each modern detail is in dialogue with the existing condition and every window profile is unique to the house. Much of the hardware is also unique, creating the necessary tangible relationships that synthesize the narrative of the whole project.
